Biocore Outreach Ambassadors Profiles

JESSICA FOX

Hi everyone! My name is Jessica, and I am a Biology major pursuing certificates in Global Health and BioCore. I am a co-chair elect for the BioCore Outreach Ambassadors (BOA) and a BioCore peer mentor as well. I joined BOA because I enjoyed teaching students about science and seeing how much they have learned in their schools as well. Over the summer, I am working as a CNA at the Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin in the Milwaukee area and as a lifeguard. In my free time, I like to spend time with my friends, and outside. After, graduation I plan to go to medical school and become a physician.

NAYEF HAMDAN

Hi guys! My name’s Nayef and I’m a sophomore majoring in Neurobiology with a certificate in Biocore. I joined BOA to help share what I learn in school with others, along with just making peoples’ days at science nights! I’m also a chair-elect for the Biocore Adventure Club, so be sure to check that out! Outside of Biocore, I research myelination in mouse brains, and I like reading and making origami in my spare time! Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have!

FILIPPO LOBUE

My name is Filippo LoBue and I major in Neurobiology. I’m pursuing a certificate in Global health and am very interested in outreach. Outside of school I play Spikeball at a competitive level and volunteer at Wright middle school as a mentor. What drew me to join BOA was all the outreach that we do.

ALEJANDRO OÑATE

I am currently a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison pursuing a double degree in Biochemistry and Violin Performance (studying under Eugene Purdue). I’m looking to pursue a career as a physician-scientist (I’ll be applying to MD/PhD programs later this year), particularly one focused on cancer immunotherapies. When I’m not focused on school I like to read, play video games, watch soccer, and play chamber music. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out at uwbiooa@gmail.com.

ABE REGNER

Hi y’all, my name is Abe. I will be a junior going into the 2022-2023 school year, I’m pre-med and plan to major in kinesiology. I love outdoor activities and sports like rock climbing, skiing, soccer, frisbee, and golf. I was drawn to BOA because I loved working with elementary aged kids at ASSC and science night events. I think BOA is a really great resume builder, and I have so much fun at every event.

STEVIE WARD

Hi! My name is Stevie and I’m currently a junior pursuing a major in Microbiology in the L&S Honors Program with certificates in Biocore and Global Health. I work in the Glass lab, which is an applied food safety and microbiology laboratory that focuses on testing products for companies like Kraft Heinz and Pepsico. I am also a member of AMSA, and volunteer at a non-profit medical clinic and at Meriter Hospital. After I graduate, I hope to attend medical school. In my free time, I love being outside, learning new recipes to cook, rock climbing, and watching bad movies with my friends. I joined BOA since I was excited to be able to bring the process of science directly to younger students and to help share my life-long love for science!

LUKE WHEELER

Hi everyone! My name is Luke Wheeler and I am currently a junior studying biology with a certificate in Biocore. In my free time I enjoy playing soccer, hanging out with my friends, and watching whatever is good on Netflix. I was drawn to BOA because of my interest of science outreach, how accessible volunteering for the program is, and the fun of being able to interact with kids that are eager to learn! Currently, I am one of the BOA co-chair elects and I really enjoy every second of it! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at uwbiooa@gmail.com.
