Biocore Outreach Ambassadors

The mission of the Undergraduate Biocore Outreach Ambassadors is to work alongside classroom K-12 teachers in Wisconsin communities to enhance science education. As an extension of the UW-Madison Biocore Program, the Outreach Ambassador Program was founded in 2004 to promote authentic scientific investigation and exploration by elementary, middle, and high school students. Due to the pandemic, Ambassadors adopted an online format allowing for scientific investigations to be conducted in a remote setting.

Current goals:

  • Enrich K-12 science curriculum by introducing inquiry-based science activities aligned with Wisconsin science standards
  • Create connections between the Outreach Ambassadors and other outreach efforts on campus
  • Encourage undergraduate and community involvement
  • Instill the Wisconsin Idea
  • Help students realize the wonders of learning science
  • Provide scientific investigative experiences in a rural setting, either synchronously or asynchronously

Future goals:

  • Work alongside Biocore Peer Advisors to provide science investigations and mentoring to BIPOC and other underrepresented students in middle and high school within the Madison Metropolitan School District
  • Extend inquiry-based science and hypothesis-testing to school districts statewide
